I was born in 1963 and I grew up watching Godzilla during the Showa period at a very young age. I saw Destroy All Monsters in an actual theater when it first came out. Plus I watched many Godzilla movies when they were played on TV any chance I could get and whenever they were on. Once I snuck into the living room at 1:00am to watch Godzilla vs Monster Zero, I was about 7 or 8 at the time.
I used to buy and build the old Aurora Godzilla model kits and drew Godzilla rather obsessively. I’m still an amateur artist today and I love to draw Godzilla. But by the time I was in my late teens and 20s it was difficult to find a Godzilla movie on TV and I drifted away from the Godzilla franchise. I did see Return of Godzilla on VHS in the mid 80s but I was really out of the loop at the time. I still loved Godzilla but I was deeply into Star Trek at this time too….I’m still into Star Trek and a lot of other Science-Fiction films.
I was 34 when Godzilla 98 came out. More on that movie another day, but Godzilla 98 brought me back to the franchise as did Godzilla 2000 which I saw on VHS a year or so later…and loved it! However, my return to the franchise was a bit slow. It wasn’t until a couple of years after Godzilla 2000 came out that I even learned that the rest of the Heisei Series (after Godzilla Returns) and the Millennium Series existed!
As I said, I was really out of the loop in the 90s as far as Godzilla was concerned. After I discovered there were more Godzilla movies beyond the Showa Series, the 84 & 2000 movies, I decided it was time to return to my first love and I began to buy all Godzilla movies on DVD. That was around 2002, 16 years ago, and I’ve been back into Godzilla ever since! Plus I started collecting Bandai figures at that time. Though I stoped collecting Bandai for the most, I recently started collecting X-Plus figures too. As of this writing I have 16 Figures!
I do have a Science Fiction & Fantasy Film blog and I’ve covered Godzilla there. I also run a Facebook Science Fiction & Fantasy Film Group and a page on Facebook called Godzilla Designs.
I created this blog to focus solely on Godzilla. I will be re-writing and posting my Godzilla movie reviews, I will be talking about the many Godzilla suits and their designs, plus pretty much anything related to Godzilla and Kaiju movies and my new love of X-Plus Figures!
So come along with me on this journey as I delve into my love of all things Godzilla!
